Sibley County is considered a "fringe" county; we are on the western boundary of the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area. We share a border with 2 of the metro counties, Scott and Carver. Many commuters take advantage of our lower housing costs and the benefits of rural living.
The distinct qualities of each community provide a unique blend of history and culture. Just to name a few:
Arlington has the county's only movie theatre with a newly restored marquee; Gaylord opened a new Area Aquatic Center in 2011; Gibbon takes great pride in their Gibbon Reds baseball team; Green Isle is..."a Bit of Ireland;" Henderson, on the Minnesota River, is home to the Sibley County Historical Society; New Auburn is working to protect High Island Lake by planting beautiful rain gardens; and Winthrop just opened a Skate Park where youth can safely skateboard and/or rollerblade.
The Prairie Line Trail Organization has been recently formed to explore the process of having a bike/walking trail in Sibley County, connecting all the destinations in the county and beyond. Their mission is ….to create economical, social and recreational opportunities for all citizens and visitors to Sibley County.
Sibley County Mission Statement:
Sibley County: A safe, healthy, progressive county providing quality public service in a cost effective manner through innovation, leadership and cooperation.
